Wedding photography FAQ`s
What is your style of photography?
I am not a traditional wedding photographer. 90% of the images captured at your wedding will be candid, natural and unposed “real moments”. That means 10% of your wedding day is for the all important family group photos, and time with you, the bride and groom. I need that time alone with you both so we can get those gorgeous portraits of you both in a relaxed manner. Pretty much every guest photograph will be an unposed, candid moment. I will not be the photographer that stops all the fun just to say “smile”.
Do you still photograph the posed family group images?
Yes I will. If they are important to you then I am there to photograph the family groups. A month before your wedding I will send you a short questionnaire. In that I ask you to detail the groups you require photographing. Bear in mind that each group can take five minutes to organise (if auntie Mildrid has disappeared to bar again). So, a list of ten groups may take 45 minutes to photograph. As you can see, the more groups you want formally photographing, the longer I will have to have you standing around instead of getting the most out of your wedding day.
Can we give you a shot list of photographs we want you to take?
If I have to work from a check-list I can miss the important real moments happening at your wedding. Apart from the family group photography list I work in a very photojournalistic manner, capturing the day as it happens. The lists that wedding magazines and websites produce are there really to give you a rough idea of what to expect. They are not exhaustive and sometimes they are very misleading. I generally provide way more images than any list could ask for.
Do you work with a second photographer?
Not all the time. If you require a second photographer, to capture more moments, different angles etc I can arrange one for a small cost.
Where are you based? Will you travel?
I live in Colwyn Bay, North Wales. I’ve been all over the UK to cover weddings. If you want your wedding abroad please contact me, I love flying 🙂
All travel costs are billed to you at cost. I will not charge you more than I am charged.
Is Tony the only photographer?
Yes. I am the only photographer at Tony Fanning Photography.
Can we get the black and white images in colour?
The images supplied to you after your wedding will be a mix of colour and black & white. No fancy colours or crazy Photoshop filters applied to them. If you want all black & white or all colour please let me know. If I have supplied a black & white image it WILL NOT be available in colour and visa versa.
When will we get our albums and images?
Your online gallery goes live within four weeks of the wedding date. Upon final approval of album designs most albums are ready for delivery within eight weeks.
How many photographs will we get?
The number of photographs you will receive depends on many things – the number of guests, hours of coverage, and what your guests are up to. I work on quality rather than quantity. As such please expect 400-600 images.
Do we get to keep the digital files?
You will receive one of my custom USB drives with the edited printable versions of your wedding images, along with social media copies of the same images. Your slideshow will also be on the drive.
I will also supply a print release allowing you to make copies and print those same images.
Do we get the raw, unedited files?
No, these files will not available for viewing or purchase. You will have booked me after seeing other finished, edited images so giving out the “straight from camera” raw files will not reflect my high standards.
Can we see the out-takes and all of the images that didn’t make the “final cut”?
I am afraid not. You will receive every single image that passes my strict quality control. I will not release the “blinkers”, misfocused, or just plain not very good images.
All those images that do not make the final edit will be deleted.
What is the online gallery?
The online gallery is a private, password protected section on our website where all of your wedding photographs will be placed online for you and your family and friends to view. It is also a secure shopping cart – which allows you (and your family and friends) to order prints and cards and select album prints online. All you have to do is provide the password to anyone who you want to be able to view the images.
Do you do engagement sessions?
Yes. I try to do these during the middle part of the week as weekends are my busiest times.
Do you have insurance?
Of course I do. Personal liability and public liability.
What kind of equipment do you use?
Professional Canon digital equipment.
Can you hold the date for me?
No, sorry. To hold the date I need a signed contract and your 25% deposit. This applies to every single booking I take so it is fair to each and every person who enquires.
When do you need paying?
A 25% deposit/retainer is due to secure your date. The remainder is due four weeks prior to your wedding.
I have to cancel my wedding. Can I have my deposit back?
No you cannot, sorry. The deposit is non-refundable, as is any of balance you may have paid up to that date. The deposit guarantees that I will exclusively hold the date for you and once you’ve signed the contract I do turn down all other enquiries for that date.
What if you are ill or cannot attend the wedding?
If I am ill and cannot physically attend your wedding I will still give you a list of excellent professional photographers. You will not be left without a replacement.
If we decide to book Tony Fanning photography for our wedding, when should we book?
ASAP please. Since I cannot “hold” dates dates are booked when when they’re booked. Most of my wedding clients book a year or more in advance. You may be lucky if you contact me late but you do run the risk of me being unavailable.
Do you offer discounts for off-season or non-weekend events?
I am busy all year and do not really have an off-season. If you have a certain budget please still contact me as I may be able to help you out.
Do we need to feed you at our wedding?
When you sit down for your wedding breakfast, that is the time I have my break too. We all need to eat and drink afterall. If you can arrange with the venue to let us have a light meal that would be awesome. If you’d rather not, please let me know so I can make other arrangements.
Can our guests take pictures with their own cameras?
Absolutely. I only ask that they don’t get in my way or distract the groups when I am photographing them. I do not want any guest photography when I am photographing the bride and groom portraits as this is very distracting for me and for you.
